STAC Women's Basketball Handed 60-42 Loss By D'Youville

Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team dropped its second straight contest in Western New York, falling to D'Youville University, 60-42 on Sunday at the Saints Center.

STAC slips to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in ECC play, while D'Youville moves to 3-8 and 1-3.

Syrita Faraj once again led all scorers with 18 points for the maroon and gold. Anna Jankovic led the host Saints in scoring, tallying 16 points.

St. Thomas Aquinas shot 27.6 percent from the field (16-58), while D'Youville shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Nine Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
  • Karolina Jaruseviciute and Trinity Cheatom led the maroon and gold with three assists each on the afternoon.
  • Syrita Faraj hit 7 of her 17 field goal attempts, with two sailing through the nets from distance.
  • STAC out-rebounded D'Youville by a slim 38-37 margin, with Faraj also grabbing a game-high nine boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up six steals, with the Saints turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
  • The game featured three ties and four lead changes.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas trailed D'Youville 31-24 at the half and shot 37.0 percent (10-of-27) from the field.
  • Syrita Faraj led all Spartans scorers with ten first half points, while shooting 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from the field and 2-of-2 from long range.

D'YOUVILLE NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Saints logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Anna Jankovic led D'Youville with 16 points. Teammate Morgan Giancaterino (11 points) also scored in double figures.
  • Jankovic also led D'Youville with four assists on the day.
  • Jankovic went 6-for-11 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the foul line, with Giancaterino hitting 3 of her 9 field goal attempts and all five of her free throw attempts.
  • Samantha Ruhlman grabbed a team-high seven boards for the Saints.
  • D'Youville picked up nine steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 18 separate occasions.
  • The Saints earned advantages in four team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points of Turnovers (17-11), Second Chance Points (5-4), Points in the Paint (24-20) and Bench Points (18-5).
  • D'Youville had its largest lead of the game (18 points) with 16 seconds to play in the opening frame, 60-42, on a Aliviya Vallone Russell three pointer.
  • Anna Jankovic led the Saints at the half with 10 points on 3-of-6 (50.0 percent) shooting from the field and 4-of-6 (67.0 percent) from the charity stripe.
  • D'Youville best shooting quarter came in the second stanza, with the Saints shooting 53.3 percent (8-15) from the field and 50.0 percent (3-6) from beyond the arc.
  • The Saints victory on Sunday is the first against St. Thomas Aquinas since joining the East Coast Conference. STAC was 7-0 in the previous matchups dating back to January of 2022.
