Chestnut Hill Outshoots Women's Hoops In 88-77 STAC Loss

Sparkill, N.Y. - Guards Syrita Faraj and Cassidy Mahaney led four Spartans who scored in double-figures with 18 points apiece, but it was not enough to offset the accuracy of visiting Chestnut Hill University in St. Thomas Aquinas College's 88-77 loss at the Aquinas Hall Gymnasium on Saturday.

STAC drops to 1-4 on the year, while Chestnut Hill improves to 2-5.

The aforementioned Syrita Faraj and Cassidy Mahaney led maroon and gold offense with 18 points apiece, while Bailey Chapman (14 points) and Karolina Jaruseviciute (13 points) also registered double digit point totals. Bridie McCann led all scorers, recording 19 points for the visiting Griffins.

St. Thomas Aquinas shot 42.2 percent from the field (27-64), while Chestnut Hill shot 50.0 percent (34-68) from the floor and 47.4 percent (9-19) from beyond the arc.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
  • Abby Jacoby and Delaney Finnegan led the maroon and gold with three assists apiece on the afternoon.

  • Chestnut Hill out-rebounded STAC by a 41-32 margin, with Syrita Faraj also grabbing a team-high eight boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up three steals, with the Griffins turning the ball over on 11 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned one advantage in the team statistical categories over Chestnut Hill: Second Chance Points (13-10).
  • The game featured four ties and 10 lead changes.

  • Bridie McCann went 8-for-16 from the floor and 3-of-6 from three, with Caleigh Edwards hitting 6 of her 10 field goal attempts and five connecting from beyond the arc.
  • Bri Rider grabbed a team-high eight boards for the Griffins.
  • Chestnut Hill picked up six steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 12 separate occasions.
  • The Griffins earned advantages in four team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points off Turnovers (16-11), Points in the Paint (34-26), Fastbreak Points (8-0) and Bench Points (30-28).
  • Chestnut Hill had its largest lead of the game (11 points) with just over seven minutes to play in the contest, 72-61, on a Avery White layup.
  • Bridie McCann led all scorers at the half with 17 points on 7-of-10 (70.0 percent) shooting from the field and 3-of-4 (75.0 percent) shooting from three-point.
  • Chestnut Hill's best shooting quarter came in the second stanza, with the Griffins shooting 57.9 percent (11-19) from the field and 75.0 percent (3-4) from beyond the arc.
