STAC Women's Bowling Closes 2022-23 Season at ECC Championships

Coram, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Bowling team wrapped up its 2022-2023 season at the East Coast Conference Championships, which were held at Coram Country Lanes and hosted by Adelphi University.

STAC battled nine member schools in a three-day baker-format tournament, with the Spartans saving their best rolls for the weekend event.

Bowling five baker matches on day one, the team's total pin-fall determined their seeding for a double elimination bout. Placing eighth in the baker round (3,673 total pins), STAC drew #9 seed Saint Anselm College and went toe-to-toe with the Hawks, earning a 4-3 victory and surviving the first round of team exits.

On day two, the maroon and gold competed against the top seed Mercyhurst University. Keeping the match close throughout, STAC forced a fifth game, which the Lakers were able to win over the Spartans and take the series 4-1.

Facing a win or go home situation, STAC fell into an early 0-2 hole against Adelphi University. However, the Spartans put up a valiant effort, digging deep to tie the third game. Although the maroon and gold were able to garner another victory, the Panthers closed out the match to eliminate the Spartans and draw the curtain on their season.

Despite the season ending as it did on Saturday, the team had many successes and checked off several individual goals. Head Coach Brianna Jones and her staff have already begun preparations for the 2023-2024 campaign. New faces will arrive in Sparkill in the fall to help bolster an already talented roster, which has its sights set on making some noise in next year's conference championship tournament.
