Women's Bowling Opens 2023-24 Campaign At The 2023 Northeast Classic

Lodi, N.J. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Bowling Team kicked off its 2023-2024 campaign at the 2023 USBC Northeast Classic, hosted by William Paterson University, on Saturday and Sunday at Lodi Lanes.

At the two-day event, the Spartans posted the third highest total pinfall with 6,009.

Day one of the tournament consisted of six-team game matches, where each team score is accumulated to determine their overall standing. Senior Shaniah Alago led the pack, scoring a 194 in game five to cap off STAC's highest team score of the day. Alago placed in 6th out of 31 competitors, ending the day with a 1,002 total pin fall.

On the second day of competition, the Spartans took to the lanes in a 12-game baker match. The first eight games determined positioning, with the top two women's teams advancing to a best of five series, varsity division only baker bracket. Despite having a few games scoring 192 pin falls or better, the maroon and gold fell short of advancing. However, STAC continued to learn and grow as a team and individual players were able to advance their skills over the two days.

It was bittersweet two days for the maroon and gold, as they will lose a dedicated member of the squad at the end of the fall semester. Graduating Senior Katie Healy departs St. Thomas Aquinas College to begin the next journey in her life. Healy helped with the progression of the women's bowling program and was able to celebrate many of the Spartans' successes with her teammates in 2023.

The entire St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Bowling team would like to wish Katie all the best in her future endeavors and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

STAC will return to action after the holiday break, and when the calendar turns to 2024. The Spartans will travel to Staten Island for the Eastern Intercollegiate Bowling Tournament on Saturday, January 27 at Rab's Country Lanes.
