Gwynn Oak, Md. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Bowling team traveled to Maryland for the two-day 2024 Coppin State University Lady Eagles Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at AMF Woodlawn Lanes.
16 teams, representing Divisions I, II and III, went to head-to-head in both traditional play and baker games, with a scratch scoring system used to count total pinfalls.
On Saturday, the Spartans took to the lanes for traditional team matches, where senior Ashley Sena had a stellar performance, shooting an 874 series across five games. Sena bowled a 222 in match three and a 200 in match four to help her team with much-needed points. Junior Gillian Chanat shot a career-high of 164 on a tough sport shot in Maryland.
The next day, the maroon and gold participated in five qualifying round baker games and two, best-of-seven series position matches. STAC came up victorious in their first match of the day, beating Virginia State University in the five-game baker matchup. Shortly after, STAC forced the higher-seeded Virginia Union University to a game seven in the position match. However, the Spartans could not secure the win, coming up just short.
Despite the setback, STAC looks ahead to its upcoming matches in January, when the season resumes at the West Chester Community College Viking Classic on Sunday, January 19 at Spins Bowl Carmel in Carmel, New York.
