The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost at Queens, 16-14 in today's ECC game. Maryanne Kugler and Anne Buttafuoco each scored 4 goals while Lindsey Lawless had 3 goals. Johannah Mitchell had two goals and Stephanie Brown added one goal. Jen Kugler had 9 saves for STAC.
Buttafuocco and Kugler scored the first two goals of the game to give STAC a 2-0 lead. The game was tied 6-6 at the half. Buttafuoco scored to open the second half and regain the lead for the Lady Spartans. Queens scored seven out of the next eight goals to take a 13-8 lead with 17:52 left in the game. Each team added two more goals and the Knights held a 15-10 lead with 7:18 remaining. The Lady Spartans continued to fight as they rattled off four goals; two from Kugler and a goal from Mitchell and Brown, to come within one, 15-14. Queens scored their final goal with a minute left in the game and held on for the victory.
STAC will travel to Bridgeport on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
