Lady Spartans Top Dominican in Season Opener, 13-6

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team won their season opener against Dominican College, 13-6.  Freshmen Genevieve Stickney and Alexis Serras each scored 4 goals in their collegiate debut, with Stickney adding two assists as well.  Freshmen goal keeper Stephanie Nelson recorded 11 saves for the Lady Spartans.

Sophomore Margaret Sharp scored the first goal of the Lady Spartans 2012 season off an assist from Alannah McAllister just 7 minutes into the game.  Stickney and Serras each scored 2 of their 4 goals to guide STAC to a 5-0 lead with thirteen minutes remaining in the half.  Allison Smithwick put the Chargers on the scoreboard with back to back goals.  STAC held a 6-4 lead at the break as Johannah Mitchell scored the Lady Spartans final goal of the half. 

Anne Buttafuoco added two goals in the second half as the Lady Spartans scored 5 goals in the final ten minutes to finish the game ahead 13-6.  Nelson recorded her first win of the season with 8 of her 11 saves coming in the second half to hold off the Chragers.  STAC will return to action on Monday, March 13th when they face AIC in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
