The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team fell to Assumption College, 15-9 on Saturday afternoon. Freshmen Genevieve Stcikney scored 3 goals for STAC while Alexis Serras and Alannah McAllister each scored 2 goals. Stephanie Nelson recorded 14 saves for the Lady Spartans.
STAC fell behind 2-0 before Serras scored the Lady Spartans first goal on a free position shot. Serras scored again to bring STAC back within one, 3-2 at the 16:00 minute mark. Both teams exchanged goals before McCallister tied the game up at 4-4 with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Anne Buttafuoco's goal with a little over a minute left in the half, tied things up for the second time and both teams remained at 6-6 at the break.
Johanna Mitchell's goal with 22 minutes left in the game gave STAC their first lead of the day 9-8. However, Assumption scored seven unanswered goals to finish out the game ahead 15-9.
The Lady Spartans will return to action on Saturday, March 24th as they host Marywood College at Torne Valley. Game time is slated for 1:30 pm.
