STAC Edges Dominican in Sudden Death OT, 17-16

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Dominican College, 17-16 on Saturday evening.  Genevieve Stickney and Margaret Sharp each scored 5 goals for the Lady Spartans.  Stickney scored the game winner to give STAC it's 3rd consecutive win.  Samantha Lowney scored 3 goals while Kellie Kucinski had 2.  Kaitlyn Lonergan recorded 8 saves.

Sharp scored two or her goals in the first half, with the second one giving STAC a 5-4 lead.  However, the Chargers scored three goals to close out the half with a 7-5 lead.  Sharp added two more goals early in the second half as both teams took turns scoring.  STAC scored five goals in a row to get ahead of the Chargers 12-9.  

Dominican came back and tied the game at 12 and went on to take a 14-13 lead into the final seconds of regulation.  With just seconds remaining Johanna Mitchell scored on a free position shot to knot the game at 14 and force the overtime session.  

Stickney and Lowney each scored during the over time period but Dominican came back with two goals from Emily Murray.  Stickney's goal came with 1:48 remaining in the sudden death overtime session.  Gina Sparaco scored 4 goals to lead the Chargers who drop to 0-1 with the loss.  

STAC will return to action on Monday when they host Finlay College at 12:00 at Torne Valley Sports Complex.
