Lady Spartans Edge Mercy, 10-9...Serras Scores Game Winner

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Mercy 10-9 on Wednesday afternoon.  Alexis Serras scored the game winning goal on a free position shot with 14 seconds remaining.  Genevieve Stickney had 4 goals and Samantha Lowney added 3 goals. 

Margaret Sharp and Stickney connected in the first minutes of action to result in 2 Stickney goals set up by Sharp.  Stickney scored on a free position shot as did Lowney for the 4th Lady Spartan goal.  Lowney scored again off an assist by Johanna Mitchell to finish off the first half 5-4.

STAC rattled off three goals to open the second half and stretch out the lead to four.  Sharp dished out another two assists in the run and Kellie Kucinski scored on a free position shot.  The Mavericks charged back to tie things up at 8 with under 12-minutes remaining in the game.  Kelsey Bub scored three of their four goals in the run. 

Kucinski broke up the action with another STAC goal but Mercy quickly tied things up again.  Both teams battle the final 7 minutes out tied at 9 until Serras was fouled, setting up her free position shot. 

Kaitlyn Lonergan had 11 saves in the win and STAC now moves to 11-3 and 3-3 in the ECC.  The Lady Spartan wil return to action on Friday when they host Nyack for their senior day home game.
