Lady Spartans Fall to Top Ranked LIU Post, 18-9

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost to LIU Post, 18-9.  Genevieve Stickney had 4 goals for the Lady Spartans.  Samantha Lowney and Ruth Pluviose etched notched 2 goals for STAC while Kellie Kucinski chipped in one.  Margaret Sharp had 5 assists. 

Stickney put the Lady Spartans on the scoreboard early off an assist by Samantha Lowney.  LIU Post responded with two goals but then Stickney was on the attack this time with back to back goals off assists from Sharp.  With STAC ahead 3-2, the powerful Pioneer offense rattled off seven unanswered goals holding a 9-3 advantage at the break.  

STAC would not go away quietly as the started the second half outscoring the Pioneers 3-1 in the opening minutes.  Lowney had an unassisted goal just second into the half and Kucinski followed with her lone goal off a Sharp assist.  Lowney attacked again a little while later off another Sharp assist to bring STAC within four, 10-6.  

The Pioneers finished out strong, first with 5 straight goals and outscored STAC 9-6 in the second half.  Pluviose added two late goals for STAC and Stickney had one more down the stretch.  Kaitlyn Lonergan had 11 saves in goal for STAC.  

The Lady Spartans complete their best regular season in programs history with an overall record of 12-4 and a best ever 6-2 conference record.  STAC finished 7-0 at home and has earned their first ECC playoff birth.  STAC will travel to Dowling on Thursday to take on the #2 seed Golden Lions.
