Spartans Drop ECC Opener to Dowling, 10-7

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team fell to Dowling College, 10-7 on Saturday afternoon.  Genevieve Stickney, Kellie Kucinski and Courtney McGrath each scored two goals for the Lady Spartans.  Kaitlyn Lonergan recorded 6 saves for STAC. 

The Spartans fell behind early, 3-0 before McGrath scored STAC's first goal of the game at the 16 minute mark.  The Spartans putted within two with as Stickney scored off an assist from McGrath.  McGrath had two assists for the day.  

STAC opened the 2nd half with a goal from freshmen Caroline Finnen off an assist from Sam Lowney.  Kucinski's goal at the 26 minute mark tied the game up, 5-5.  The Golden Lions scored the next four goals to keep the Spartans out of reach.  Emma Ferreira scored 4 goals for Dowling while Jackie Andersen added 3 goals and 3 assists.  

McGrath's goal with three minutes remaining brought the Spartans within three, 10-7 as STAC put up a hard fight battle.  The Spartans will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Mercy College.
