Strong Start Propels Spartans to 15-9 Win

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Mercy College, 15-9 this afternoon.  Kellie Kucinski and Samantha Lowney led the charge for STAC combining for 7 of the Spartans 15 goals. Kaitlyn Lonergan had 9 saves in the win while Melissa Gabay added 1 save. 

The Spartans got off to a strong start as Genevieve Stickney scored the first goal for STAC off an assist from Sabrina Prestano.  Prestano also added two second half goals.  Courtney McGrath made the score 2-0 capitalizing on her free position shot.  Ruth Pluviose scored the third goal of the game off an assist from McGrath and Lowney added her first goal as STAC opened the game 4-0.  

Caroline Finnen scored with 5:21 left in the first half off an assist from McGrath to give STAC a 9-4 lead at the break.  McGrath had a season high 7 assists for the Spartans who had 7 different goal scorers.  

Kucinski scored the first two goals of the second half to keep the Spartans in control of the game. STAC outscored the Mavericks 6-5 in the second half and picked up their first ECC win.  

STAC is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in ECC play.  The Spartans will host Findlay at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon.
