Spartans Wrap Up Season With 9-3 Road Win Over Purple Knights

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Bridgeport 9-3, on Saturday night.  Alyson Brennan had three goals for the Spartans while Caroline Finnen had three assists and one goal.

Both teams exchanged goals to start off the game with Brennan putting the Spartans on the scoreboard first off an assist from Finnen.  Bridgeport's Courtney Forry scored to even things out at 1-1 with 14:51 on the clock.  Freshmen Courtney Dumain scored the Spartans second goal to regain the lead but the Purple Knights attacked right back for the second score tie of the game.  

The Spartans took over from that point on as Ruth Pluviose scored with 5:50 left in the first half giving the Spartans a lead they would not religuish.  Brennan and Finnen connected again to finish off the half with the Spartans ahead 4-2.  

Finnen opened the second half with a goal of her own and then picked up her third assist two minutes later off a goal by Katherine Borriello.  Back to Back goals from rookie Marist Parr and a third goal by Brennan gave the Spartans their largest margin, 9-2 with nine minutes let to play.  

Abigail Benesh scored the final goal of the game off a free position shot.  Kaitlyn Lonergan had six saves in the win.  The Spartans held a 32-20 shot advantage over Bridgeport.  The Purple Knights held a slight edge winning eight draw controls to the Spartans six.  

STAC finishes their season 10-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play.  The Spartans are in a three way tie for third place but due to tie breaker scenarios end up missing the ECC playoffs as the 5th seed.

Senior Ruth Pluviose finished her career off leading the Spartans in points with 40 goals for the Spartans and added 5 assists.  Caroline Finnen was one point behind Pluviose adding 33 goals and 11 assists.  Freshmen Courtney Dumain wraps up her first season leading the Spartans in assists with 18.  Kaitlyn Lonergan recorded 108 saves and had 8 wins for the season.
