Strong Second Half Boosts Lions Over Spartans, 13-5

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost to Molloy College, 13-5 on Saturday afternoon. Alyson Brennan and Marist Par each scored two goals for STAC while Caroline Finnen had one goal and an assist.

The Lions took an early 2-0 lead before Par put the Spartans on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at the 20:22 mark.  Molloy's Jessica Markowitz scored her second goal of the game a few minutes later giving the host a 3-1 lead.  Par struck again to bring the Spartans within one, 3-2 about hakfway through the first half.  

Alyson Brennan scored her first goal of the game with 8:34 to go in the first half.  The Lions held a 6-3 advantage at the break; highlighted by three goals from Markowitz.  Markowitz added two more at the start of the second half to give Molloy an 8-3 lead.  

Caroline Finnen added a second half goal and assisted on Brennan's second goal of the game but that was the only scoring action for STAC in the second half.  The Lions outscored the Spartans 7-2 in the second half.  

The Spartans held a 12-8 edge in draw controls with Ruth Pluviose winning eight of them.  Kaitlyn Lonergan had four saves in the loss.  The Lions move to 3-1 in ECC play giving the Spartans their first conference loss at 3-1 as well.  

STAC will return to action on Saturday when they host LIU Post for a 1:00 p.m. game.  Saturday's game will also represent alumni day for the Spartans.
