Spartans Edge Mercy, 7-6

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Mercy College, 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. Caroline Finnen had 3 goals for the Spartans, including the game tying goal.  Ruth Pluviose had 2 goals and 1 assist including the game winning goal.

Finnen put the Spartans on the scoreboard first off an assist from Pluviose at the 21 minute mark. Mercy scored the next two goals to regain the lead.  Pluviose scored her first goal of the game tying things at 2-2, with 13:37 left in the first half.  Finnen added her second goal off an assist from Courtney Dumain putting the Spartans ahead one.  

STAC's Sabrina Prestano scored back to back goals before Grace Davidson scored her second goal for the Maverick's, given the Spartans a 5-4 advantage at the break.  

Mercy scored the first two goals of the second half to go ahead one, 6-5.  The Mavericks held onto the lead until Finnen's final goal tied things up with 9:38 to go.  Pluviose was fouled and scored on a free postiion shot with 4:55 left in the game and the Spartans held on for the win.  

Kaitlyn Lonergan had 9 goals for the Spartans, whose defense held off some late attempts by the Mavericks. The Spartans will return to action on Tuesday when they host Franklin Pierce for a 1:00 game.
