The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost to Stonehill, 22-6 on Friday evening. Caroline Finnen had three goals while Kaitlyn Gutenberger added two goals and one assist or the Spartans.
The game got off to a balanced start with both teams exchanging goals with Gutenberger scoring the first Spartan goal to tie the game at 1-up. Linna Jalinskas scored the first two goals for the visitors. Back to back goals by Finnen gave the Spartans their only lead for the game, 3-2 at the 24:32 mark of the first half. The Skyhawks outscored the Spartans 12-1 for the remainder of the first half.
Stonehill stayed strong in the second half outscoring the Spartans 8-2. Danielle Cajou scored the other goal for the Spartans while Caitlin Verber added two assists. Stonehill held a 39-15 shots advantage over the Spartans.
Katherine Feigenbaum had five saves in the loss. The Spartans will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to NYIT to play the top seeded Bears in the opening round of the ECC tournament.
