The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost to New Haven, 19-11 on Thursday afternoon. Gabrielle Di Fusco and Caroline Finnen each scored three goals for the Spartans while Danielle Cajou and Caitlin Verber added two goals apiece.
New Haven scored the first two goals of the game before Cajou put the Spartans on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 25:20. The Chargers added two more goals before Cajou struck again with her second goal of the game. Di Fusco and Finnen each added one first half goal as the Spartans found themselves trailing 8-4 at the break.
The Spartans put together a three goal run early in the second half with goals from Di Fusco, Finnen and Kaitlyn Gutenburger to come within three, 10-7. Both teams exchaned goals before the Chargers finished out the game outscoring the Spartans 8-3.
New Haven held a 41-18 shots advantage. Melissa Gabay had eight saves in goal taking the loss for the Spartans. Laura Delorenzo recorded seven saves in 26 minutes of action.
The Spartans will return to action on Sunday when they host the District of Columbia for a 12:00 game.
