Spartans Overpowered By Strong Purple Knights Offense, 13-6

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 13-6 decision to the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights on Friday afternoon in Colchester, Vermont.

Kaitlyn Gutenberger tallied twice for the Spartans; while Danielle Cajou, Emily Glennon, Gabrielle Di Fusco and Leanna Iobbi picked up a goal apiece in the loss. Laura Delorenzo started in goal for STAC and made 12 saves on the day.

The first stanza was a see-saw affair, with Saint Michael's taking leads in the contest three different times, only to see the Spartans score to tie the game on three seperate occasions themselves. A 2-goal frame by the Purple Knights' Alex Vincent, along with another tally by Kit Geary was matched as Kaitlyn Gutenberger lit the lamp twice and Danielle Cajou provided another goal for STAC, squaring things at 3 goals apiece at halftime.

Second half action saw the Purple Knights score eight consecutive goals, as Kaitlyn Waystac tallied a hat trick, Kate Martin and Kaelyn Oliver each scored twice and Kelsey Bush got herself on the board, making it a 11-3 Saint Michael's advantage with just over fifteen and a half minutes remaining in the game. Emily Glennon and Gabrielle Di Fusco tried to start a rally, as they each found the back of the net for St. Thomas Aquinas, to cut the Purple Knights lead to 11-5. However, Kaelyn Oliver and Alex Vincent each scored again to give themselves hat tricks on the afternoon and push the score back to an eight goal advantage at 13-5. STAC's Leanna Iobbi closed out the scoring for the contest with just under a minute to play, making it 13-6 and that's how the game ended.

STAC goalie Laura Delorenzo (L, 0-2) 60:00 patrolled the Spartan cage, while Victoria Putnam (W, 1-0) 44:35 and Lucy Chin 15:25 each saw time in the Purple Knights cage, with both netminders making 2 stops apiece.

Saint Michael's held a sizable 37-19 shots advantage for the game.
