Gutenberger, Iobbi Each Net Five Goals to Lift STAC past Caldwell, 18-16

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Caldwell, 18-16 on Tuesday afternoon. Kaitlyn Gutenberger and Leanna Iobbi each scored five goals to help guide the Spartans to the victory. Katherine Feigenbaum earned her 4th win of the season recording 17 saves in goal.

The Spartans came out strong in the early part of the first half as Gutenberger scored three consecutive goals.  An Iobbi goal and two from Gabrielle Di Fusco gave STAC a 6-4 lead midway through the first half.  However, the Cougars were able to rattle off seven unanswered goals guiding them to a 12-9 first half lead.  Iobbi added two more first half goals while Jennifer Farrell chipped in one to end the half.  

Farrell added back to back goals at 14:04 and 13:52 mark to tie the game 14 all.  Gutenberger's 5th goal gave the Spartans a 15-14 lead and they would not trail for the rest of the game.  Iobbi, Arielle Rodriguez and Di Fusco eached scored late goals for the Spartans to secure the win.

STAC held a slight advanced 19-17 in draw controls while the home team had the edge over the Spartans 39-37 in shots.  STAC will return to action on Saturday when they travel to UDC for a noon game.
