STAC Women's Lacrosse Falls to Roberts Wesleyan, 23-15

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team lost to Roberts Wesleyan College 23-15 on Sunday, in ECC action, at Spartan Field in Sparkill, NY.

Leanna Iobbi and Jennifer Farrell each netted four goals, while Micaela Ross picked up her first career collegiate hat trick and Danielle Cajou (2 goals), Jennifer Stevens (1 goal) and Arielle Rodriguez (1 goal) also scored for the Spartans. Goalie Laura Delorenzo (L, 2-2) got the start in net for STAC and stopped 8 of 31 shots faced.

The Redhawks' scoring was led by Madison Bell with nine goals and Emily Tomei with seven goals. Alexis Grant (2 goals), Ellen O'Neil (2 goals), Lindsey Brinkel (1 goal), Gemme Guy (1 goal) and Kelsey Simmons (1 goal), also contributed to the red-hot Roberts offense. Keeper Natalie Arieno (W, 5-0) got the nod in net for Roberts Wesleyan and remained undefeated, stopping seven shots.

Roberts Wesleyan got off to a strong start, netting six of the first nine goals, as Madison Bell would score four times, with Emily Tomei and Kelsey Simmons finding the back of the net as well. Two Jennifer Farrell goals, along with a Micaela Ross tally would put the score at 6-3 with just under nineteen minutes to play in the first half. Leanna Iobbi would cut the STAC deficit to one on back-to-back goals, making it 6-5. Bell would continue her goal scoring barrage, as she would pick up three more goals, with a Farrell tally sandwiched in between to make it a 9-6 Roberts Wesleyan lead. Emily Tomei would then score to make it 10-6, before goals by STAC's Danielle Cajou and Arielle Rodriguez would cut it back to a 2-goal Spartan deficit at 10-8. However, the visitors from Rochester would strike three more times before the half ended, as Alexis Grant and Bell (2) pushed the Roberts' lead to 13-8 at the break.

In the second half, Roberts Wesleyan would, once again, open the scoring, as Gemme Guy made it a 14-8 game. Danielle Cajou, Leanna Iobbi and Micaela Ross would score the next three goals for STAC, closing the gap on the scoreboard at 14-11. However, the powerful Redhawks' offense would continue to find ways to score, as Emily Tomei (4), Alexis Grant, Lindsey Brinkel and Ellen O'Neil (2) would all tally goals, with Iobbi picking up one for STAC to give Roberts Wesleyan a 22-12 advantage with just over six minutes remaining in the game. The Spartans would answer with three goals of their own, as Jennifer Stevens, Jennifer Farrell and Ross all scored to narrow the STAC deficit to six at 22-15. Roberts would close out the scoring for the contest with an Emily Tomei goal to make it a 23-15 final.

Roberts Wesleyan held a 38-26 shots advantage for the game.

STAC will continue their four game homestand, facing Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday, March 24. Opening draw is set for 2pm at Spartan Field.
