Women's Lacrosse Honors Danielle Cajou and Leanna Iobbi on Senior Day

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team closed its 2022 campaign, falling to nationally ranked Mercy College, 21-9 on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field. STAC finished its season at 4-9 overall and 2-4 ECC, while #15 Mercy improved to 12-4 and 6-0.

Prior to the contest, STAC honored its graduating senior class; Danielle Cajou and Leanna Iobbi with on-field ceremonies, which included their teammates, families, coaches and college administrators.

How it Happened

  • Playing shorthanded due to injury and illness, the resilient Spartans tallied the days first two goals, as fittingly, seniors Leanna Iobbi and Danielle Cajou staked the maroon and gold to a 2-0 advantage in the first four minutes of the contest.
  • Mercy would score the next four to take over the lead at 4-2.
  • Danielle Cajou's second of the afternoon cut the Mavericks margin to just one at 4-3.
  • The visitors closed the first quarter and started the second, scoring eight straight goals to jump ahead 12-3.
  • Leanna Iobbi's second goal and Danielle Cajou's third tally, with a Mercy strike in between put the score at 13-5 in favor of the Mavericks.
  • STAC and Mercy traded two goals apiece, with the visitors striking twice, before Micaela Ross scored and Julia Reggio deposited a beautiful backhand shot to the back of the net to bring the halftime score to 15-7.
  • Following the break, Mercy controlled the third quarter scoresheet, picking up three more goals to run their lead to 18-7 through three quarters of play.
  • Fourth quarter action saw Leena Moussa strike for two quick goals for the Mavericks to make it a 20-7 game.
  • Leanna Iobbi'a hat trick goal and Danielle Cajou's fourth of the day closed the scoring for STAC, making it 20-9.
