Women's Lacrosse Falls to Pace, 20-7 in 2022 Home Opener

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Lacrosse team battled both the weather and a high-powered Pace University offense on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field, as the Spartans dropped a 20-7 decision to the visiting Setters.

STAC falls to 0-3 on the year, while Pace improves to 3-0.

How it Happened

  • With Spartan Field looking like a winter wonderland, Pace University raced out to a quick 6-0 lead on the strength of goals by Aleya Corretjer (2), Kayla Conway (2), Sydney Juvelier and Angelina Procello.
  • Danielle Cajou would break the seal for the Spartans with just under four minutes to play in the opening quarter to cut the deficit to 6-1 by the end of the first stanza.
  • The visitors tallied the next three goals to open the second quarter, as Angelina Porcello found the back of the cage twice, giving her a hat trick, while Jolie Urraro got her first of the day to put Pace up 9-1.
  • The teams then traded two goals apiece with STAC getting tallies from Samantha Cerrato and Micaela Ross, while Sydney Juvelier and Jolie Urraro scored for Pace to make it a 11-3 in favor of the Setters.
  • Pace recorded three of the final four goals of the half, with Isabella Piccola, Angelina Porcello and Sydney Juvelier adding to the totals on the scoresheet. Jennifer Stevens was able to get a goal back for STAC late, and the teams headed to the sidelines for the halftime break with the Spartans trailing 14-4 through 30 minutes of action.
  • Following the break, the Setters and Spartans traded goals, with Aleya Corretjer getting herself a hat trick and Micaela Ross tallying her second of the afternoon to make it 15-5 Pace.
  • Angelina Porcello, Jaimie Bell and Margaret Flocco netted consecutive goals for Pace to drive their advantage on the scoreboard to 18-5. McKenzie Schlectweg added her first of the season for STAC, just before the third quarter buzzer to make it 18-6.
  • In the fourth quarter, Oliva Cerbo opened the scoring for the Spartans, but Pace would close things out with back-to-back goals from Nikki Mottes and Avery Gales to take the 13-goal victory.
