Southern Connecticut State Overpowers STAC, 20-2

New Haven, Conn. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 20-2 defeat at the hands of Southern Connecticut State University, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

STAC falls to 3-6 on the season, while Southern Connecticut moves to 6-2 on the year.

Junior Katelyn Cerrato and sophomore Arianna Tribble led the Spartans' offense with a goal apiece on the afternoon. Freshman goalie Lilah Magenheimer (L, 3-6) got the start between the pipes for the maroon and gold and stopped 12 of 32 shots faced.

Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut State was led by Kirsten McIntire, who tallied five goals, while Morgan Reilly added three goals and three assists and Alexa Alchimio scored three goals. Teammates Amelia Mansfield (1 goal, 3 assists), Alexandra Ruel (1 goal, 2 assists), Savannah Feinberg (1 goal, 1 assist), Hannah Holmes (1 goal), Allie Welder (1 goal), Jordan Fisher (1 goal), Anna Meserve (1 goal), Allie Palmer (1 goal) and Abigail Nolan (1 goal) added to the totals both on the scoreboard and the scoresheet. Goalies Caelan Connors (W, 6-2), 2 Saves, and Hannah Sommer, 1 save, split time in the cage for the Owls.

  • So. Conn. outshot STAC 36-8 (32-5 on goal) for the game.
  • Arianna Tribble tallied a team-high three shots (one on goal) for the Spartans.
  • Tribble and Lilah Magenheimer and each gathered three of the Spartans 14 ground balls in the match.
  • Arianna Tribble also caused four of the Owls turnovers on the afternoon. Additionally, she was successful on five draws.
  • Southern Connecticut State won 16 of 23 draw controls.
