Women's Lacrosse Falls in ECC Opener to Mercy, 23-3

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team opened the East Coast Conference-portion of its 2024 schedule on Wednesday afternoon, suffering a 23-3 loss at the hands of Mercy University at Spartan Field.

STAC falls to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in ECC play, while Mercy moves to 3-7 and 2-0 on the year.

Senior Olivia Cerbo and sophomores Rachael Paraskos and Ella Entress led the Spartans' offense with a goal apiece on the afternoon. Freshman goalie Lilah Magenheimer (L, 3-7) got the start between the pipes for the maroon and gold and stopped 10 of 33 shots faced.

Meanwhile, Mercy was led by Leena Moussa, who tallied four goals and two assists, while Riley Wallace added four goals and an assist, Erin Shimborski and Leah Hansen scored three goals and an assist each and Juliana Talenti struck for a pair of goals and a helper. Teammates Andrea Mott (1 goal, 7 assists), Brooke Zarou (1 goal, 2 assists), Isabelle Palladino (1 goal, 1 assist), Sydney Corley (1 goal, 1 assist), Kelly Rosenfeld (1 goal), Tatiana Moran (1 goal) and Rita-Marie Masi (1 goal) added to the totals on the day for the visitors from Dobbs Ferry. Goalie Olivia Maute (W, 2-5) got the start for the Mavericks and allowed only one goal in 15 minutes of action, before being relieved by Olivia La Monica, who turned away one shot in 30 minutes of work. Olivia Bradley came on for the final quarter and faced no shots.
