Women's Lacrosse Succumbs To Virginia State, 21-7

Ettrick, Va. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team opened their two-match spring break road trip on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Virginia State University 21-7.

STAC slips to 2-2 on the season, while Virginia State moves to 2-5 on the year.

Hailey Galison led the Spartans' offense with six goals on the afternoon. Teammate Katelyn Cerrato also contributed to the cause by tallying a goal for the visitors. Goalie Lilah Magenheimer (L, 2-1) got the start between the pipes for the maroon and gold and stopped 14 of 35 shots faced.

Meanwhile, Virginia State was led by Kayla Carroll-Williams, who racked up an eight point day with six goals and two assists. Aniyah White tallied four goals and a helper, while Sophie Toye and Rylie Banks scored a pair of goals apiece for the Trojans. Additionally, Bryelle Small (1 goal, 1 assist), Carea Tuck (1 goal, 1 assist), Nakiyah Jones (1 goal, 1 assist), Morgan Terry (1 goal), J'Daria Thompson (1 goal), Unique Anthony (1 goal) and Naima Courtney (1 goal) added to the totals on the scoreboard for the hosts. Ilyana Jones (W, 2-5) turned aside 12 of 19 shots thrown her way to earn the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Virginia State outshot STAC 43-25 (35-19 on goal) for the game.
  • Hailey Galison tallied a match-high 12 shots (10 on goal) for the maroon and gold.
  • Galison and Brianna Cote each gathered four of the Spartans 20 ground balls in the contest.
  • Hailey Galison and Katelyn Cerrato caused three Trojans turnovers each on the afternoon. 
  • STAC won 16 of 28 draw controls, with Galison also winning nine draws.
