Women's Soccer Kicks Off Season with 9-0 Win

Freshmen Duo Standout for Spartans

The STAC women's soccer team opened their season with a 9-0 win over the visiting Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent College.  The Lady Spartans were lead by freshmen Katherine Dapolito and Liz Gronwoldt who rallied off four and two goals respectively over the first twenty-five minutes of the game.  Nicole Biolsi and Michaelle Kelly rounded out the scoring for STAC.

Freshman Liz Gronwoldt started off the scoring barrage for the Spartans with a breakaway just over twelve minutes into the game.  She followed that goal with another just four minutes later, scoring from just in front of the goal off a pass from senior captain Stacey Samora.  At 19:09 Dapolito also found herself in a breakaway situation which led to the first goal of her collegiate career.  In less then a minute and a half later Dapolito scored her second goal off a Gronwoldt cross from the right side of the field.  Dapolito scored her next two goals within a forty second span.  The first of the two was assisted by sophomore, Maria Morgana.

With less than eight minutes remaining in the first half Nicole Biolsi scored her first goal of the season on a long shot just outside the box which deflected off the hands of Mount Saint Vincent goalie Jen Kaufmann.  Freshman Michaelle Kelly scored the final goal of the half off a pass from senior captain Carolina Bruschi at 38:42.

STAC dominated the first half keeping the ball on their offensive end while taking twenty shots on goal.  The Spartan defense did a great job holding the Dolphins to zero shots on goal.

In the second half, Biolsi scored her second goal of the season off a pass from junior Natalie Steciuk.

Freshman goalie, Cynthia Campion recorded the shutout in her college debut.

The Lady Spartans return to action on Saturday at noon on the road as they take on the Chestnut Hill Griffins.
