STAC Comes from Behind to Earn Tie

Gronwoldt Penalty Kick Ends Game with 3-3 Tie

The STAC women's soccer team hung tight against the Bloomfield Deacons to earn their second tie of the season.  The Spartans were down 2-0 until freshmen Katherine Dapolito cut the score in half with her eighth goal of the season.  Dapolito has scored one goal in each of her last four games including the game tying goal against Mercy College.  Elizabeth Pagnani and Liz Gronwoldt also scored for the Spartans.

Strong play in the midfield by Dapolito and senior Stacey Samora helped the Spartans continue their attack against the Deacon backfield.  "Katherine and Stacey really turned it on in the second half" commented head coach Al Moroni, "they were an inspiration to the rest of their teammates."

Freshmen Elizabeth Pagnani headed in the Spartans second goal of the game off a well placed corner kick by fellow rookie Kayla Hubela.  A late foul called against the Deacons inside their 18' awarded Liz Gronwoldt a penalty kick.  Gronwoldt's shot on goal was successful tying the game up at 3.

The Spartans are on the road again on Thursday as they travel to Post University (CT) for another non-conference game.  STAC returns home to face cross town rival Dominican College next Monday at 6:30pm.  The game will be played at Eugene Levy/Herb Resiman Soccer Field.
