Lady Spartans Drop First Road Game

Lady Spartans Drop First Road Game

The STAC women's soccer team was dealt their first loss of the season by the Chestnut Hill Griffins in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.  Despite out shooting the Griffins 10 to 3, the Spartans found themselves down 1-0 at the end of the first half.   Senior Captain Stacey Samora had a good look at the goal but came up empty after a great save by Chestnut Hill goalie Caitlin Lafferty.  Samora was one of four Spartans to have at least three shot attempts.  The Griffins were sparked by freshmen Chelsea Steinard's goal at 13:54 off an assist from fellow freshmen Lauren Riff.

Freshmen Liz Gronwoldt led the Spartans with four shots on goal while freshmen Michaelle Kelly and Katherine Dapolito added three each.  Overall the Spartans finished the game with seventeen shots to the Griffins twelve.  Chestnut Hill sophomore Tara Morey added a little insurance for the Griffins with a goal at 74:50 directly off a corner kick.

Freshmen goalie Cynthia Campion, coming off a shutout in the first game of her career against Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, recorded four saves for the Spartans.  STAC has a couple of days to rebound and prepare for another road game at cross town rival Nyack College next Saturday at 1:00.
