The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team won their first game of the season, 4-3 over home team Goldey-Beacom College.  Sophomore Tori Matt recorded her first goal as a Lady Spartan early in the game and netted another in the second half.  Liz Gronwoldt and Nicole Biolsi scored as well for STAC with Gronwoldt adding an assist. Katherine Dapolito assisted on the first two goals of the day.

For Goldey-Beacom Karin Eriksson scored just :26 seconds into the game but Matt would respond quickly for the Lady Spartans putting in a feed from Dapolito just before the three-minute mark.  STAC then took the lead on a goal from Gronwoldt nearing the 16-minute mark. Dapolito assisted on the goal once again.

A little over 10 minutes into the second half, the Lady Spartans scored back-to-back goals in a span of 27 seconds. Matt scored first off an assist from Gronwoldt, and then Nicole Biolsi scored an unassisted goal following a GBC turnover to give STAC a 4-1 advantage.

The Lightning did not give up easy as Eriksson scored two more goals late in the second half, one off a penalty kick.  However the Lady Spartans stayed strong as Jeanette Gibson recorded six saves and held on for the win.  STAC will be back in action on Tuesday, September 15th as they host their first home game of the season against Post University.  The Lady Spartans will play at North Rockland Soccer Association, game time will be 5:30 PM.
