Lady Spartans Open Season Against Clippers

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team kicked off the 2010 season with a home game against Concordia College.  Tori Matt scored the first goal of the game and later added an assist as the Lady Spartans fell 4-2.

Matt scored at the 37:02 mark off a long kick over goal keeper, Nicole Carroll.  The Clippers tied the game off a goal from Susan Valencia to take a 1-1 score into the half.  Concordia took the lead behind a goal from Jennifer Stefankrewicz at 43:48.  Freshman Kristie Sama scored her first collegiate goal for the Lady Spartans off an assist from Matt.  Matts shot went wide past the goal keeper giving Sama the opportunity to tie the game.  A late run by Concordia and two goals from Bridgetitte McCalla gave them the edge over STAC.  Oumou Toure had two assists for the Clippers and Carroll finished with 7 saves.   Jeanette Gibson had 7 saves for STAC.

The Lady Spartans will play Mercy College on Saturday at 5:00 PM.  The game will be played at Manhattanville College.
