Lady Spartans Set to Open 2011 Season

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team will take the field tomorrow afternoon as they kick off the 2011 season at home against Concordia College under first year head coach Graham Brown.

Brown is no stranger to Spartan soccer as he coached the mens team for the past eight seasons, and is coming off one of their best seasons with a 12-5-1 record in 2010.  Brown will juggle both teams with the help of a strong coaching staff, including Jess Eichele who was promoted to assosciate head coach in the spring of 2010, after serving as the top assistant for one season.  "It has been an excellent and enjoyable experience so far, I am proud to be involved with the women's team and honored that they trust my ability to improve our program," commented Brown.

The Lady Spartans were ranked 8th in the ECC Preseason Poll, after finishing 1-16-0 last season.  STAC returns their leading goal scorer, Tori Matt who connected on 7 goals and 1 assist in 2010.  The Lady Spartans return 12 players from last years squad and have added 10 newcomers as they look to improve on last years record.  "We are very young this year but I am confident that as the year progresses we will improve.  Teams at the end off the season playing us will see that progression on the field," said Brown.

Tomorrows game will be held at Eugene Levy Memorial Park and game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
