Lady Spartans Battle Eagles to 0-0 Draw in Double Overtime

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team tied with Post University, 0-0 in this afternoon's contest.  Junior Becky Torres had two shots on goal and classmate Michelle Dugan added one.  Senior Julia Karl recorded seven saves for the Lady Spartans.

The Lady Spartans limited the Eagles to seven shots on goal in this defensive battle.  Post's goalkeeper, Grace McConnell notched three saves for Post.  "The Lady Spartans showed great determination against Post University Women's team in today's pulsating game of end to end soccer. We gave a great effort and made sure that we limited the fast attacking Post players to a few opportunities. Julia Karl was excellent in goal and Liz Gronwoldt did a fantastic job in central defense as she covered for injured Sarah Rusciano. The girls have made us proud this year with their battling efforts and as each game passes we seem to be getting stronger and stronger," commented Head Coach Graham Brown.

Today's game was senior day for STAC's seven seniors; Liz Gronwoldt, Julia Karl, Michaelle Kelly, Christine Kennelly, Tori Matt, Amanda Nespolini and Sarah Rusciano. The St. Thomas Aquinas athletic department thanks the seniors for all of their hard work and dedication to the athletic program.

The Lady Spartans return to action on Sunday when they travel to NYIT to take on the Lady Bears.  The game is slated for 12:00pm.
