STAC Women's Soccer Dominates Maritime in 9-0 Victory

Becky Torres scored three goals in the opening minutes - all assisted by Vicky Saravia - to lead the St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer term to a 9-0 victory at Eugene Levy Park. The game was the Lady Spartans first home contest of the season and their second win in their last three, to improve to 3-8-1 on the season, while Maritime remained winless at 0-16.

Little time had elapsed off the clock when the Lady Spartans established thier dominance against their outmanned visitors, as Saravia and Torres combined to hit mesh three times in the games first 5:20. The barrage continued on goals by Mae Comerford, Paige Montillo, Danielle Stam, Gabrielle La Fata (2), and Sara Montello. Assists were credited to Kelly Moresi (3), Montillo, Michelle Dugan, and Nicole Eisenhauer.

STAC outshot Maritime by a 43-1 margin, and visiting netminder Meghin Packowski kept the tally from being higher in recording 20 saves. Amanda Volpe (45 minutes) and Avaree Rainford (25 minutes) combined to earn the Lady Spartans' first shutout of the season, in a game that was shortened to 70 minutes due to rain and field conditions.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Saturday, October 20, when they hit the road to play their first ever East Coast Conference game against Roberts Wesleyan, with start time slated for 2:00 pm.
