Comerford's Goals Lift STAC Women's Soccer Over Daemen, 3-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team rode a pair of goals from Mae Comerford to a 3-1 victory at Daemen College. The Lady Spartans have now won three of their last five games to improve to 4-9-1 while the hosts fall to 6-9-0 in seeing their three-game winning streak snapped.

After a slow start cost them dearly in a loss to Roberts Wesleyan just 24 hours earlier, the Lady Spartans held their own despite yielding six of the game's first seven shots. It was STAC's second shot, however, just before the end of the half that would put the first goal on the board.

Comerford's shot inside the post at 43:01 gave the Lady Spartans a lead they would take into the locker room. She would extend the margin with her second at 59:22 on an assist from Maddison Lord.

With time winding down, STAC goalkeeper Amanda Volpe saw her quest for her first solo shutout of the season spoiled at 86:03, when Alexa Amato found the net for the Wildcats to give her team hope. As time ran down, Becky Torres would remove all doubt for St. Thomas Aquinas, putting one home with just 30 ticks left.

STAC will travel to face Bloomfield College in a 7:00 pm kickoff this Thursday, October 25, before closing out the campaign on Senior Day with a conference match against Mercy College at 12:30 on Saturday, October 27, at Eugene Levy Park.
