Women's Soccer Edged at Bridgeport, 1-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team put up a tough fight but a second-half goal was the difference in a 1-0 setback at the University of Bridgeport. The Lady Spartans now stand at 1-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the East Coast Conference while UB improves to 6-3-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

As was the case in their last contest against Nationally-Ranked C.W. Post, the Lady Spartans held tough in a scoreless first half. Despite being outshot 8-3, STAC netminder Amanda Volpe made the only save of the session as the defense was solid.

Danielle Puddefoot got the Purple Knights on the board with her team's first shot 9:05 into the second half, when she converted a cross from Gabby Reis to put home her 10th goal of the season. While St. Thomas Aquinas would remain within a single shot, Bridgeport was able to lock down the victory, outshooting the Lady Spartans by a 19-5 margin. Volpe ended up with four saves in a solid effort, while Purple Knight netminder Julia Hansson was forced to make a single stop in preserving the shutout.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Saturday, October 6, when they travel to take on NYIT. The game, originally slated to be hosted by STAC, has been moved due to field conditions. The women's game will kick off at 12:00 noon, preceding the men's contest at 2:30
