The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team utilized a pair of second-half goals from Becky Torres and Nisha Flinn to defeat Washington Adventist, 2-1, in a non-conference game. The Lady Spartans improve to 2-7-1 overall while the hosts from Maryland fell to 4-8.

After a tough East Coast Conference loss at NYIT just two days ago, STAC came out firing early, outshooting WAU 13-4 over the first 45 minutes. The game remained scoreless, however, on the strength of goalkeeper Taylor Noel's seve saves.

It took little time after the break for the Lady Spartans to break the seal, with Becky Torres hitting net from inside the box at the 45:42 mark. The visitors would continue to press until a foul in the penalty area lead to Nisha Flinn's PK goal at 58:53 to give STAC a two-goal cushion.

That goal would prove to be the winner as WAU would draw within one on Kelsey Wright's penalty kick at 73:54, but the afternoon would belong to the visitors, who won the shots battle by a convincing 25-7 margin. Noel made 13 saves in an impressive evening of work, but Amanda Volpe would come away with the win in the STAC net on the strength of her four saves.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Sunday, October 14, when they travel to Queens College to play an ECC contest, with kickoff slated for 1:00 pm.
