Late Rally Falls Short, Women's Soccer Downed at Dominican, 4-2

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team showed their spirit with a pair of late goals but ran out of time, falling at Dominican College, 4-2. The Lady Spartans are now 1-4 on the season. Olivia Antonopolous was the difference-maker, putting up three goals for Dominican as the hosts improved to 4-2.

Dominican applied pressure early and broke through at the 15:54 mark on Antonopoulos' first of the day, on an assist from Mackenzie Riley. The Lady Spartans regained their footing and send the game into halftime with the score remaining at 1-0.

Antonopoulos removed most of the doubt early in the second half, converting on a header at 49:31 and then netting a penalty kick at 58:01 to give the Chargers a comfortable cushion. They extended the margin at 67:18 on a goal by Eliza Falzarano off a Nicole Sanchez corner kick.

STAC would not go without a battle over the final 20 minutes, however, as Becky Torres put the Lady Spartans on the board at 70:31, and Danielle Stam converted a feed from Lindsey Sansone at 83:04 to draw within striking distance, but the charge would prove to be too little, too late.

Avaree Rainford patrolled the STAC net in the first half, making one save, while Amanda Volpe played the final 45 and was credited with three.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Saturday, September 22 for their home opener against Molloy College.
