Women's Soccer Downed at Nationally-Ranked LIU-Post, 6-0

After battling to a scoreless first half, the St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team was defeated in a second half barrage by #15 ranked LIU-Post, 6-0. The Lady Spartans are now 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the East Coast Conference while Post improves to 8-1-1, 3-0-0. The contest was originally scheduled to be a home game for STAC, but was moved to Long Island due to unplayable field conditions.

Squaring off with one of the top teams in the country, the Lady Spartans held their own early on as the hosts held only an 8-4 margin in shots, with three saves each by STAC's Amanda Volpe and Post's Nicole Fierro keeping things scoreless.

That didn't last long into the second half, however, as Lady Pioneer Suzanne Vistnes netted her first of the day less than four minutes in to break the deadlock. Solvig Bjordal put Post up by a pair at 56:13, followed in short order by another pair of goals from Vistnes as the flood gates opened. Vistnes' hat-trick gave her 10 goals on the season.

Alexa and Jackie Nicoforo added tallies for Post to account for the final margin. Post's dominance in the second half was in evidence in their 11-3 margin in shots, for a game total of 19-7, as Volpe was credited for five saves in all.

The Lady Spartans - who have played all seven games to date on the road - will travel to the University of Bridgeport for an ECC tilt this Wednesday, October 3, before they will once again be scheduled for their home opener next Saturday, October 6, when NYIT visits.
