Becky Torres, Nisha Flinn, and Priya Bahtti all tallied to lead the St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory in their season opener at Post University on Tuesday, September 4. Mae Comerford added a pair of assists for the Lady Spartans. STAC won its season opener for the second straight season in the non-conference tilt, while the hosts from Post fell to 0-2 overall.

St. Thomas Aquinas broke on top early, as Torres took a nifty pass from Comerford and put one past Eagles keeper Grace McConnell and inside the far post in the 20th minute of play. McConnell would help her team pull even less than four minutes later, as her long punt sent Tessa Dunster in alone on STAC goalie Avaree Rainford to deadlock the score at 1-1.

The Lady Spartans would strike back quickly, with Comerford again acting as a catalyst, sending a through ball to Flinn who converted at the 28:02 mark to put the visitors back on top. STAC would strike quickly after the half to open a cushion, as an errant clear was sent to Bahtti, who made no mistake to stake her team to a two-goal lead.

Post made the finish an exciting one, trimming the deficit to 3-2 on the strength of Renel Dennis' penalty kick goal at the 75:34 mark, but Coach Graham Brown's troops were not to be denied. The Lady Spartans outshot Post by a 12-8 margin, and carried a decisive 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Rainford made three saves to preserve the victory for STAC.

STAC will face a tough test in its next contest, the 2012 home opener against Lock Haven University this Saturday, September 8 at 12:30 pm. The game will be played at Eugene Levy Memorial Park in Pomona, NY, as part of a double-header preceding the men's team taking the field - also against Lock Haven - at approximately 2:30 pm.
