STAC Women's Soccer Falls to Mercy in ECC Tilt, 4-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team was defeated by Mercy College, 4-0, in an East Coast Conference contest at Mavericks Field. The Lady Spartans now fall to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference action, while Mercy improves to 6-0-0, 2-0-0.

Mercy established control from the outset, outshooting STAC by a 16-0 margin in the first half and taking the lead on a pair of goals, tallied by Jennifer Vega and Jackie Karras. The outcome was in little doubt when Vega scored her second of the day by virtue of a penalty kick, and Taylor Horgan put the finishing touches on the scoresheet in the waning minutes.

For St. Thomas Aquinas, the story of the day was the play of goalkeeper Lauren Morales, who made 13 saves on the afternoon, many of the spectacular variety. Maverick netminder Nicole Augustine was credited with five stops in picking up the clean sheet for the hosts.

The Lady Spartans are now off until next Saturday, September 28, when they return to Spartan Field to host Dowling College in another East Coast Conference match-up. Kickoff is set for 12:00 noon and the game is the front end of a double-header which will see the men's teams following. STAC will now play six of its next seven games at home.
