STAC Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener, 4-0 at Walsh University

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team opened the 2013 season at Walsh University in Ohio, coming up short by a 4-0 count.

Walsh took control early and wasted little time getting on the board, with Lea Jalbert coming in alone to make the score 1-0 in the seventh minute. The Lady Spartans held tough but a goal late in the half from Jessie Gearhart made the tally 2-0 at half.

Once again, STAC played tough after the break but scoring opportunities were few before the hosts put the contest away on a pair of Jalbert tallies. St. Thomas Aquinas was outshot by a 20-5 margin, and Avaree Rainford and Lauren Morales divided the net time, with Rainford making four saves and Morales adding two.

The Lady Spartans return to action Saturday to face Malone University in a noon contest. Follow the game on Live Stats by clicking the link on the schedule page. They will then enjoy a week off before playing their first game at the new Spartan Field, an East Coast Conference tilt against the University of Bridgeport on Sunday, September 15 at 3:00 pm
