STAC Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with Concordia

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team remained undefeated after a 1-1 tie against Concordia College at Spartan Field. Kathryn Kerrigan's first collegiate goal late in regulation forged the tie at the Lady Spartans stand at 1-0-1, as Concordia was playing its season opener.

Much as in Saturday's season-opening 4-1 victory over Bloomfield College, the visitors struck early. Kaela Blanco found the back of the net for the Lady Clippers just 57 seconds after the opening whistle, and STAC was forced to play from behind for much of the afternoon.

After outshooting Concordia by a 7-3 margin, the Lady Spartans picked up the tempo after the break, sending 15 shots toward frame while holding their opponents shotless. Goalkeeper Samantha Street, who made 13 saves in all, looked to be able to preserve the win for her team before Kerrigan finally broke through at the 74:54 mark to draw even.

Regulation would end with the score tied and chances were few in the 20 extra minutes, with St. Thomas Aquinas registering the only three shots, raising their convincing game total to 25-3. Amanda Volpe made one save in the Lady Spartan net.

The Lady Spartans will play their third of five straight home games to open the season, returning to the Spartan Field pitch on Wednesday, September 10, facing Lincoln University (PA).
