Giglio Tally Lifts STAC Women's Soccer to 1-1 Tie at Daeman

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team needed a late goal to earn a 1-1 draw at Daemen College in an East Coast Conference match. Francesca Giglio's first career goal earned the draw for the Lady Spartans, who now stand at 4-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in ECC play. Daemen is now 2-7-0, 0-3-1.

Daemen got on the board early when Cassidy Kozub hit the net just 6:33 into the contest but the Lady Spartans were unfazed, carrying much of the play thereafter despite trailing at halftime. STAC outshot the hosts by a 7-2 gap in the first half.

That was the last ball that would find its way past goalkeeper Amanda Volpe and her STAC teammates continued to apply the pressure before finally breaking through. Giglio converted a rebound off rebound Kathryn Haessner at 72:47, knotting the score, which would remain tied through two scoreless overtime sessions.

STAC outshot their opponents by a healthy 17-6 margin on the rainy afternoon, with Volpe credited with two saves to nine for Hassener.

The Lady Spartans conclude their three-game ECC road trip at Queens College next Saturday, October 11, in a noon start. They will then play four straight at home, starting with a non-conference tilt against Post University on Wednesday, October 15. Kickoff time is set for 1:00 pm as the front end of a double-header which will see the men square off with the University of District of Columbia at approximately 3:00 pm.
