Women's Soccer Rallies to top Bloomfield in Opener, 4-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team started the season on a winning note, topping Bloomfield College, 4-1 at Spartan Field. Four different scorers hit the net while Nisha Flinn added two assists in the season opener for both squads.

STAC's day got off to a rough start, when Bloomfield's Rianna McNew took a nice feed and scored on a breakaway, putting the visitors on the board just 2:28 after the opening whistle. The Lady Spartans would waste little time drawing even, however, with Mae Comerford hitting the twine on a feed from Flinn at the 5:39 mark.

Just under six minutes later, Lindasy Sansone scored on an assist from Annalise Warren, and Vicki Saravia came off the bench to increase the lead on Flinn's second assist at 26:38, as STAC went on to carry a 3-1 lead into the half.

After the break, Justina Babcock converted her own rebound on a nice second-effort at 68:53, giving the home squad a lead that would not be threatened. Amanda Volpe earned the win in net, making two saves as the Lady Spartans outshot BC by a 14-8 margin on the afternoon.

The Lady Spartans will be right back into the mix in just two days, hosting Concordia College in a non-conference tilt on Saturday, September 6, at 12:00 noon at Spartan Field.
