Lady Spartans Soccer Stopped by Georgian Court, 3-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team scored first before falling to Georgian Court University, 3-1, in a rain-swept non-conference game at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans fell to 6-5-2 overall while Georgian Court improved to 9-4-3.

Heavy rain and strong winds punctuated the opening whistle, causing both teams to work hard to gain a foothold. Those conditions may have played a part in STAC gaining the early lead, as a play by Georgian Court's defense slid past goalkeeper Casey O'Conner and into the net for an own goal at 17:05.

Before the half ended, the visitors knotted the score as Rachael Tremblay headed home a long free kick by teammate Kaitlyn Hartzkoph at 29:13 to tie the score. Offensive chances were limited, with each team recording just three first half shots.

With the wind at their back, the visitors took full advantage, netting a pair of late goals to seal the victory. STAC goalkeeper Amanda Volpe saved Rosa Franze's shot into the crossbar, but Tori Capestro was on the spot to put in the rebound at 76:45 for what proved to be the decisive goal. Tuere Chislom Thomas posted the insurance marker at 83:47 to end the day's scoring, as Georgian Court ended up with a 10-7 advantage in shots for the game.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Saturday, October 25, for a big East Coast Conference test against Molloy College at Spartan Field. Game time is approximately 2:30 pm, after the conclusion of the men's game at noon. Both teams will be celebrating Senior Day, with festivities to be held before the start of each contest.
