Stam's Late Marker Lifts STAC Over Lincoln U, 2-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team used a late goal from Danielle Stam to defeat Lincoln University, 2-1 at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans remained undefeated on the season, improving to 2-0-1 while dropping Lincoln to 1-1-1.

STAC held the majority of the play through a scoreless first half, outshooting the visitors by a 10-2 margin, but Lions keeper Christian Harris was up to the task, making seven saves.

Lincoln broke on top early in the second half, with Alanna van Ness sending a nice pass cross field to Tamara Greene, who rocketed a shot past STAC netminder Amanda Volpe off the inside of the far post. The marker, just 2:32 after the second half whistle, give the visitors a short-lived lead.

For the third straight game, the Lady Spartans found themselves trailing at home but rallied yet again. Just under two minutes later, Mae Comerford drilled the equalizer from just inside the box, with Priya Bhatti credited with the assist at 49:22. The game remained deadlocked until Comerford made a pretty move, finding Stam in close for the winner at the 86:36 mark.

St. Thomas Aquinas outshot the Lions by a decisive 19-5 margin, with Volpe making one save to 11 for Harris.

The Lady Spartans return home to play their fourth of five straight to start the season at Spartan Field on Sunday, September 15, at 12:30 pm. They will then begin the East Coast Conference portion of their schedule when NYIT pays a call on Tuesday, September 17, as the front end of a double-header featuring the men's teams, with kickoff set for 2:00 pm.
