STAC Women's Soccer Comes Up Short vs Molloy, 1-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 1-0 defeat vs Molloy College in an East Coast Conference contest at Spartan Field.. STAC fell to 6-6-2, 2-5-1 with the loss, with Molloy improving to 5-7-1, 5-3-0.

Half number one was an evenly-played, defensive struggle, but Molloy hit the net just past the midway point to grab the lead. Gabriele Batista sent a long cross to the far post and Sam Bernieri was on the spot to put it past a helpless Amanda Volpe in the STAC net at 28:23.

With each team recording just four shots in the first 45 minutes, scoring opportunities were hard to come by and the Lions' lone goal held up. Though the Lady Spartans recorded just two second half shots, their best opportunity came with just under 20 minutes to play, when Nisha Flinn's shot was rejected by a diving Paige Salmon in the Molloy net. Salmon and Nicole Dellaporta combined for two saves on the day, with Volpe turning aside three shots for STAC.

The Lady Spartans close out the 2014 season with an East Coast Conference match-up at the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, October 29, with game time slated for 3:00 pm.
