Rae Header Lifts STAC Women's Soccer Over Post U, 2-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team scored late to earn a 2-1 victory over Post University at Spartan Field. Mallory Rae's first goal of the season with under 12 minutes remaining proved to be the difference as the Lady Spartans improved to 6-3-2 with Post dropping to 8-4-0. The six victories for the women's soccer team equals their highest mark since the 2006 season.

With rain falling in the early moments, Post put a damper on the Lady Spartan's start as Renell Dennis hit the net from all alone in front after just 1:16 of play. STAC was unfazed, however, evening the play on the field until Clarissa Flores could do so on the scoreboard. Flores took a feed from Priya Bhatti and her blast from outside the box found the top corner of the net at 37:01.

Post held a narrow 6-4 edge in first half shots, and the stingy defense continued until the hosts found the tiebreaker in the waning minutes. Nisha Flinn sent a free kick dangerously into the box where Maddison Lord headed it at the back post. Rae was on the spot right in front, putting a header of her own under the crossbar for her first collegiate goal at 78:25.

STAC's defense, which was tight throughout the afternoon, clamped down on the final minutes and Amanda Volpe was strong in net, making three saves on the day.

The Lady Spartans return to action this Saturday, October 18, hosting Mercy College in an East Coast Conference showdown. Kickoff is set for 12:00 noon, as the front end of a double-header preceding the men's teams squaring off.
