Comerford's Three Goals Lift Women's Soccer to 10-0 win over WAU

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 10-0 victory over Washington Adventist University at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans are now 3-0-1 overall, while WAU fell to 0-2-0.

STAC left little doubt about this contest early, with Comerford netting three markers in the first 18 minutes of play, wrapped around one by Clarissa Flores, to give the Lady Spartans a quick 4-0 lead.

Comerford was among the first of a stream of starters to sub out shortly thereafter, but there was still no shortage of goals. Sophomore Megan Finnen scored the next two goals in succession - one straight off a corner kick - and Christine Winter and Kira Sherwood followed to give the home squad a commanding 8-0 lead at halftime.

Priya Bhatti and Justina Babcock added second-half tallies to round out the scoring as St. Thomas Aquinas outshot Washington Adventist by a commanding 43-2 margin on the afternoon. Amanda Volpe played the first 45 minutes in net without facing a shot, with Lauren Morales making one save in the second half in a relief role.

The Lady Spartans have one game remaining in their string of five straight at home to open the campaign, as they will host New York Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference tilt on Wednesday, September 17. That game will start at 2:00 pm as part of a twin-bill, followed by the men's teams squaring off at approximately 4:30.
